Do I need an appointment for alterations?
No appointment is normally required. You can simply walk into your nearest The Sewing Corner store with your garments.
For alterations where fit is important, we recommend trying the garment on in our fitting room so our tailor can pin and mark the required adjustments accurately.
Can you alter expensive or designer clothing?
Yes. Our experienced tailors regularly work with premium, designer and delicate garments.
Before starting, we examine the garment, fabric and construction and advise you on what can realistically be altered while maintaining the original design and finish as closely as possible.
For particularly complex garments, we may recommend one or more fittings.
Can you resize a dress, suit or garment that is too big?
In many cases, yes. We can alter the waist, sides, shoulders, sleeves, length and other areas to improve the overall fit.
How much a garment can be resized depends on its construction, fabric, design and the changes required. Our tailor will inspect the garment and recommend the best approach before work begins.
Can you make clothes bigger if they are too tight?
Sometimes. Whether a garment can be made larger depends mainly on its construction and how much additional fabric or seam allowance is available inside it.
Bring the garment to one of our stores and our tailor can assess it for you. Where a conventional alteration is not possible, we may also be able to suggest an alternative solution.
Do you have female tailors for ladies' fittings and alterations?
Yes. Female tailoring staff are available to assist our lady customers, including with fittings, alterations and custom tailoring.
Private fitting rooms are also available so garments can be properly fitted and marked before tailoring or alteration work begins.
Can you alter evening gowns, bridal dresses and special-occasion wear?
Yes. We undertake alterations for evening gowns, formal dresses, bridal wear and other special-occasion garments.
These garments often require more detailed work involving hems, linings, shoulders, bust adjustments, sleeves or complete resizing.
For important occasions, we recommend bringing your garment to us as early as possible to allow sufficient time for fitting and any final adjustments.
How long do clothing alterations normally take?
Our normal turnaround time is approximately 3 days for standard alteration work.
More complicated alterations, larger orders, custom tailoring and garments requiring multiple fittings may take longer.
If you need your garment sooner, please let our team know when placing your order. Same-day and urgent alteration services are available for many types of work.
How much do clothing alterations cost?
Prices depend on the type of garment and the alteration required.

Can you keep the original hem when shortening my jeans?
Where the garment and construction allow, our tailors can retain or recreate the original look of the hem when shortening jeans.

Do you offer pickup and delivery or home alteration services?
Yes. Pickup and delivery and home alteration services are available in selected areas of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Can you repair torn clothes, broken zippers or damaged garments?
Yes. In addition to alterations, we undertake many types of clothing repairs, including zipper replacement, buttons, hooks, stitching repairs and darning.
Some damage may not be fully repairable, particularly where the fabric has become severely weakened or damaged. Our tailor can inspect the garment and advise you on the best solution.
